1.4 BOARD COMPOSITION

Board members will represent the community and will include members with a wide range of skills, interests and perspectives to meet the Agency’s needs such as:

• a local perspective through work, residence or community involvement within the Agency’s catchment area; and/or,
• direct experience in the addiction, mental health, justice, employment, education or children’s services field; and/or,
• skills in areas identified by the Board of Directors to meet its needs, such as, accounting, law, fundraising, human resources, etc.; and/or,
• experience from other boards; and/or,
• past experience as a client of the Agency’s services.
  

The composition of the Board will have regard for the diverse characteristics of the community served.

Each member of the Board of Directors will also be a member of the Agency.

The by-laws of the Agency further stipulate the eligibility criteria for its Board of Directors.  Further to that by-law, prospective Board members who are in and/or have immediate family in active service at the Agency may not serve on the Board of Directors.  After their and/or their family, involvement with client service has been inactive for at least one year; they may seek nomination to the Board.

As defined in the Employment Standards Act, 2000, the immediate family would include, grandparents, parents, foster parents, brothers, sisters, spouse, common-law spouse, children, in-laws, step-parents step-children, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
