Pleasant, Glen Morris and Onondaga. Urban and semi-rural in nature, Brantford-Brant is centrally located in the heart of the Golden Horseshoe along the 401/403 corridor providing easy access to major urban areas and international borders. The total population for this area is approximately 125,000 individuals. The most concentrated density is found the City of Brantford with a population of 90,000. This geographic region also includes the Six Nations of the Grand River Reservation with a total population of 11,200. With its central location and access to many neighbouring communities, Brantford-Brant is becoming a popular point of settlement for newcomers. Currently, 76 languages have been documented as being spoken in this area from over 120 countries. Most recent statistics indicate a population of approximately 12,500 foreign-born residents. The City of Brantford is home to a satellite campus of Mohawk College and in recent years has attracted an ever-growing campus of Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University. There are 11 public and Catholic secondary schools in the Brantford-Brant region. Over 59% of the population aged 25 to 65 has a high school education or less. Single parent families comprise approximately 19% of the population with a median income of $33,911. Haldimand County spans a geographic area of approximately 1,252.37 square kilometers and is located on the north shore of Lake Erie. It is well positioned in the economic heartland of Southern Ontario. Haldimand County is situated between Norfolk County, Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, County of Brant, City of Hamilton and Niagara Region. The total population of the County is 45,210 resulting in a density of 36.1 people per square kilometer. Over 46% of the population is found in the following towns: Caledonia (9,600), Dunnville (5,600), Hagersville (2,550), Cayuga (1,650) and Jarvis (1,450). From 1996 to 2006, the population of Haldimand County grew 7.6%. Average individual and family incomes are approximately 13% less than the provincial average. Over 50% of the working population commutes to employment outside the community. The largest employers of County residents are in the manufacturing sector such as primary metal and food production. These industries have been negatively affected by the economic strife of the past year. Within a one hour’s drive, two universities and three colleges are available to Haldimand residents.
