1.9 ROLE OF COMMITTEE CHAIRS The committee chairperson will be responsible to the Board for the effective operation of the committee according to its Terms of Reference. In addition to being able to chair a meeting, the committee chairperson will be able to provide leadership, plan agendas and work with a team. The committee chairperson will review the Terms of Reference and ensure they are achieved as outlined and authorized by the Board. The committee chairperson will orient new members to the work of the committee and, as appropriate, to the Board policies. The committee chairperson will understand the role of staff members on the committee and will invite staff to give input. The committee chairperson will plan and evaluate the work of the committee with the help of its members. The committee chairperson will ensure that meeting minutes and other relevant information are recorded and filed. The committee chairperson will report the committee’s progress and outcomes to the Board on a regular basis.
