POLICY

St. Leonard's Community Services is committed to addressing the issue of Hepatitis B in the work place.

St. Leonard's recognizes the importance of receiving the Hepatitis B vaccine and therefore will offer all staff the opportunity to receive the vaccine treatments.  It is a requirement that staff working with the needle exchange program have completed the Hep. B vaccine.  Persons participating in the needle exchange program can receive vaccines free of charge from the Brant County Health Unit and the Aboriginal Health Centre.

Those staff working in departments funded by the Ministry of Community, Safety & Correctional Services can receive their vaccine free through the Ministry of Public Safety and Security.  The remainder of staff will be covered by St. Leonard's Community Services.

Staff may have their doctors or the Agency doctor administer the vaccine.

PROCEDURE

Training will be provided to all Agency staff in the necessary "universal precautions" for responding to Hepatitis B.
