St. Leonard’s Community Services provides a full spectrum of justice services for adults and youth ranging from restorative community justice committees, pre and post charge diversion, bail verification and supervision, community service orders, an attendance centre, intensive youth support, open detention, open custody and day parole. Through individual counseling and groups the Agency employs cognitive behavioural “best practices” to help offenders change their anti social thinking/ behaviour patterns and acquire the values and skills necessary to become law-abiding community members. Residential Services are staffed 24 hours per day and provide safe and healthy environments for youth and adults. In partnership with the Grand Erie District School Board an on site Agency learning centre at the Open Custody/Detention Centre (Peter Willis Residence) help students who because of behavioural, emotional and/or learning difficulties are unable to benefit from a regular school program. The goals of the learning centres are to assist students to develop academic, behavioral and social skills in order to re integrate into a regular school setting in preparation for entry into the work force. YOUTH DIVERSION PROGRAMS Extrajudicial Measures Program (Youth Pre-charge Program) The Extrajudicial Measures Program (also referred to as the Pre-charge Program) is specific to youth aged 12 to 17. Referrals are made by the local Brantford Police Services and Brant County Ontario Provincial Police to St. Leonard’s Community Services. The Extrajudicial Measures Program is a community based alternative to addressing minor incidents of crime such as shoplifting, theft under, fraud, mischief etc and minor offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. This program is provided by St. Leonard’s Community Services in partnership with the Brantford Police Services and Brant County Ontario Provincial Police. The goal of the Extrajudicial Measures program is designed to reduce minor incidents of crime in the Brant County community. Supportive interventions and programming assist young persons in accepting responsibility and addressing the impact of their actions on themselves, their family, the victim and the community. Hours: Monday to Friday 10:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 9:30am to 1:30pm Extrajudicial Sanctions Program The Extrajudicial Sanctions Program is a community based alternative to formal Court proceedings in the Youth Justice Court. The program is available to youth aged 12 to 17 for first time or low risk offences. Extrajudicial Sanction candidates are screened and referred by the Crown Attorney. Participation in the program allows young person’s the opportunity to make reparation for their alleged offence through the completion of specific negotiated sanctions. Supportive interventions and programming are available to assist young persons in accepting responsibility and addressing the impact of their actions on themselves, their family, the victim and the community. Hours: Monday to Friday 10:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 9:30am to 1:30pm
Youth Justice Committee The Youth Justice Committee program is a community based sanction referred by the Crown Attorney’s office. The Youth Justice Committee program is specific to young persons aged 12 to 17. The Youth Justice Committee program is a structured meeting between trained community volunteers, the young person and the victim. The Youth Justice Committee and involved parties addresses minor offences by discussing the events leading to the offence, the consequences of the offence and how to best repair the harm done. Youth Justice Committee candidates are screened and referred by the Crown Attorney. The Youth Justice Committee is provided in partnership with St. Leonard’s Community Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General. The goal of the Youth Justice Committee is designed to provide supportive interventions and programming to assist young persons in accepting responsibility for their offence and addressing the impact of their actions on themselves, their family, the victim and the community. Hours: Monday to Friday 10:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 9:30am to 1:30pm

The Adult Diversion program is specific to adults aged 18 and up. The Adult Diversion program addresses such offences as: shoplifting, theft under, fraud under, mischief under, obstruct police etc. This program is available in the Brant County area. The Adult Diversion program is provided in partnership with St. Leonard’s Community Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General. The goal of the Adult Diversion program is designed to reduce minor incidents of crime in the Brant County community. Supportive interventions and programming assist adults in accepting responsibility for their offence and addressing the impact of their actions on themselves, their family, the victim and the community. Hours: Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 5:30pm, Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm Federal Diversion Program The Federal Diversion program is a community based alternative to the formal Court process addressing minor offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. The Federal Diversion program accommodates adults aged 18 and up. Specific narcotic offences such as minor possession of a substance offences. The Federal Diversion program is provided in partnership with St. Leonard’s Community Services and the local Federal Crown Attorney’s office. The goal of the Federal Diversion program is designed to provide supportive interventions and programming to assist adults in accepting responsibility for their offence and addressing the impact of alleged offence. Education and awareness are the key components of programming in the Federal Diversion Program. Hours: Monday to Thursday 9:00am to 5:30pm, Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
