Stop Now and Plan (SNAP™) What is SNAP™? SNAP™ stands for Stop Now and Plan. The 8-week program helps children between the ages of 9 - 12 years to control impulsivity, think about the consequences of their behaviour and develop a socially appropriate plan. "We feel much better as a family unit at the end of these sessions." Is SNAP™ for us? SNAP™ is for families. Both parents and children are expected to participate. Children that show any of the following behaviours will benefit from SNAP™.
How can SNAP™ help our family? SNAP™ is successful because it involves the participation of both parents and their children. SNAP™ provides this opportunity through the Kids Club and Parents Support Group. Kids Club Held on a weekly basis after school hours, for 8 weeks, kids will learn basic self-control and problem solving skills. The club provides an opportunity for structured and unstructured play, discussion, modeling, coaching, role-plays and relaxation. Kids Club topics include:
"I like coming to SNAP™ because I got to express my feelings." Parent Support Group The Parent Support Group meets at the same time as the Kids Club. Parents learn the same skills their children are learning to increase the likelihood of skill transfer at home. Parents also learn effective child management techniques and share their concerns with other parents. Topics for parents include:
"I realized I wasn't a bad parent." Cost These services are free. How Do I Enroll? Simply call the Addictions and Mental Health Centre (519) 754-0253 and ask about the SNAP™ program.
