Introducing BRANTFORD CARES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BRANTFORD, ON - Brantford's community is joining forces to make a transformative impact on the lives of youth experiencing homelessness. St. Leonard's Community Services, the only emergency youth shelter in Brantford for youth ages 15 to 29, has launched the BRANTFORD CARES campaign. This initiative aims to raise $10,000 to support programming for youth shelter, offering essential resources, support, and a safe haven for young individuals facing homelessness.

Unhoused youth remain a critical issue, and it is estimated that youth make up approximately 20% of the unhoused population in Canada. St. Leonard's Community Services recognizes this pressing need and is committed to providing shelter, guidance, and wrap around support to vulnerable youth in Brantford.

"When you donate to St. Leonard's Community Services' BRANTFORD CARES campaign, your dollars stay local and directly impact the lives of youth in our community," said Katie Curtis, Director of Housing and Justice at St. Leonard's Community Services. "We are the lifeline for these young individuals, offering them a safe space and the support they need to overcome their circumstances and build a better future. Together, we can make a significant difference."

The BRANTFORD CARES campaign seeks to raise $10,000 to support programming for youth accessing St. Leonard's Youth Housing programs and services. This program plays a crucial role in providing engaging activities, educational opportunities, life skills training, and emotional support to the youth residing in shelter. By contributing to this campaign, donors can directly impact the lives of youth experiencing homelessness, empowering them to overcome challenges and pursue wellness.

Right now, there are youth in our shelter system who will benefit from this campaign. Meet John*, a 16-year-old youth, who has experienced a tumultuous journey and has finally found stability and support at Station House. John, like many unhoused youth, faced loss, identity crisis, and a yearning for belonging. Despite challenges, he has adapted remarkably well to the structure of the Station House program operated by SLCS. He attends school regularly, works part-time, and demonstrates optimism and aspirations to become a police officer. Recognizing the importance of ongoing support, John has been referred to the Supportive Housing program, which will provide guidance throughout his housing journey towards independence.

You can help other youth realize their potential when you donate to BRANTFORD CARES.

The BRANTFORD CARES campaign invites individuals, businesses, and organizations to contribute to this critical cause. Donations can be made through various channels:

Earlier this year, the Agency's annual SOUP CHALLENGE fundraiser was canceled due to various factors, including restaurant industry limitations, staffing, and COVID-19. Nevertheless, our commitment to helping the community and youth experiencing homelessness remains unwavering. Your support is vital in making a positive impact on those in need.

When supporting the BRANTFORD CARES campaign, donors help create a lasting impact in the lives of youth experiencing homelessness in Brantford. Together, we can provide a safe and nurturing environment for these young individuals, empowering them to break the cycle of homelessness and pursue a brighter future.
