What is Seeking Safety?
An 8-week treatment group for clients who identify as survivors of trauma who also identify using substances to cope. Seeking Safety focuses on developing safe coping skills and increasing self-care while decreasing harmful or risky behaviors.
The number one goal within this group is to help you become safe. “Safety” includes the ability to:
- Manage trauma symptoms (flashbacks, nightmares, and negative feelings)
- Cope with life without the use of substances
- Take good care of yourself
- Find safe people who can be supportive to you
- Find ways to feel good about yourself and to enjoy life
Structure: 8-week. Once attendees have attended all 8 weeks, they will receive a certificate of completion.

- Attendance
- Accountability
- Participation (as comfort level permits)
- Openness to personal growth and healing
Not a part of Seeking Safety: Exploring past trauma or traumatic memories, trauma counselling.
Referral Process: Requires an internal referral from a counsellor.

Tuesday, 1:00pm – 2:00pm
Eligibility Criteria
Clients (16+) who identify as using substances to cope with trauma.
